Paintings
My paintings collection is composed of varying sizes of acrylic paintings on stretched canvases. I have used a large selection of palette knives, brushes and also non-traditional objects to create different styles. As an artist, I have decided to do a variety of things, in a variety of styles, instead of choosing one style that represents me. Here is a small sample of an article that I read about an artists style that confirmed my gut feeling to keep all of my creative options open.

“Deciding on what your image or style is going to be as an artist is not a decision that can be easily made and it should be well thought out in order to get a satisfactory end result. Once you have decided on the image you want to portray to the public, you are stuck with it forever.”

Yep, that pretty much confirmed that I want to live outside the box.

Painting #2 Rosa the Cow
Acrylic painting on 12 x 12 stretched canvas. A surprise textured background and the warm brown tones accent this painting. Since I was born and raised in a farming/livestock community around Garrison, IA, I learned to appreciate these docile creatures at an early age. If you can look past the mud and the flies these creatures are beautiful in their own right!

Painting #3 Pear
This original piece of artwork is created on a 12x12 gallery wrapped heavy duty canvas. This is my first painting using water miscible oil paint. It was fun and also challenging to try a new medium. The dark background is an interesting change of pace for me.

Painting #4 I'm Flying
Here is an acrylic painting on a 12 x 12 stretched canvas. This is my interpretation of riding your bike and removing your hands from the handle bars to feel like you are flying. It is such a rush to your soul and to your imagination to feel like you are actually up in the sky with the birds. I hope everyone who sees this painting is able to close their eyes and remember that amazing feeling. If you, by chance, have never done this, please, grab a bike, no matter how old you are, and go out and give it a whirl. You will not regret it. Unless of course, you accidentally crash, which I am hoping does not happen. If you feel like it may happen to you, then please, just take my word for it.   SOLD

Painting #5 Rosa's Red Geraniums
This heavily textured acrylic painting is really interesting to see in person. It is hard to resist touching it since the texture seems to call out to you. All right, I might be getting caried away, but, really, the texture is rough and very intriguing!

Painting #6 Trees in a Row
A 24 x 12 stretched canvas is the substrate for this original acrylic painting of a row of trees. This artwork was created with a palette knife which gives it an unusual texture. It is one of my paintings that has given me my category of "Perfectly Imperfect". As a young art student, I was always trying to make everything look realistic. Mr. Patrilla, my amazing art teacher from Vinton, IA, was always telling me, "Sherie, it is finished." I would reply, "But I need to fix this or that." He would literally have to gently remove it and say, "It is perfect. Time to move on." Thank you Mr. Patrilla for everything you taught me. I have realized that what he taught me not only applies to art, it also applies to everyday life. Mr. Patrilla, you will always live in my heART.

Painting #9 The Lighthouse
This acrylic painting on a 20 x 20 stretched canvas also has a surprise texture for the background. It is wrinkly and bumpy which gives it a texture that you just want to touch. I have chosen to paint a lighthouse on a peninsula, overlooking the ocean. The french script text is barely legible as it represents the sky and the waves of the water. The warm brown tones give it a soothing affect as you lose yourself in the glow of the light that is meant to guide the fishermen home.  SOLD

Painting #10 Black and Tan trees
This acrylic painting on a gallery wrapped heavy duty canvas is heavily textured. The trees all seem to be standing at attention to the viewer. I chose muted colors to make this piece which gives it a very neutral appeal.

Imagine
Imagine is an abstract black and white acrylic painting on a 20 x 20 stretched canvas. This is one of those pieces of artwork that starts wonderful conversations. Everyone seems to see different things when they look at it. Here are some quotes I would like to share: "That's really dramatic. To me it has a very "under the sea" effect." and also "I love this one! There's just so much to look at, even though it's only black and white."

So, what do you see?
